LSD, synthesized by chemist Albert Hofmann at Sandoz Laboratories in Basel, Switzerland, gained fame on April 16, 1943, when Hofmann accidentally discovered its psychedelic properties. Three days later, he intentionally ingested a dose, experiencing transformative effects and cycling home with his lab assistant. April 19 now commemorates this event as Bicycle Day, marking the first intentional LSD trip.
